ABOUT US

This story begins in the seaside city of Latakia - an ancient, former Roman and Phoenician metropolis founded in the 4th centurty B.C. that is now in modern day Syria. As a young boy, our co-founder learned to make this ancient Middle Eastern dish with his mother and grandmother.

Muhummara is made in many families and like families, the recipes are complex, unique and full of love. “My Mama’s Mama’s Muhummara” recipe dates back over three generations! The word “muhummara” comes from the Arabic word “ahmar,” which literally means “red”.

Muhummara gets its beautiful deep red coloring from a mix of red peppers, pomegranate molasses and spices.
